Assistant Conservation Officer

Location: Myddelton House (EN2 9HG)

Salary: £33,835 - £38,661 per annum, plus flexible benefits

Contract: Two year fixed term

Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday)

The Conservation Team plays a key role in protecting and enhancing biodiversity across the Park. They advise colleagues on issues such as protected species legislation, habitat management, and ecological best practice, working closely with Rangers, Property and Planning teams, and leisure venues to deliver the Authority’s biodiversity duty.

In this role, you will work both independently and as part of the Conservation Team, engaging with colleagues across the Authority to help deliver the Lee Valley Biodiversity Action Plan. You will assist in providing guidance on best practice land management, while also gaining opportunities to:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of conservation projects
  • Coordinate and support dedicated wildlife survey volunteers
  • Oversee the management of ecological data systems
  • Play a part in raising public awareness through events and initiatives


What attributes we are looking for in a candidate

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, energetic and practical person
  • You will need to have proven experience of working in the conservation sector
  • A recognised post-A level qualification e.g. HND; NVQ level 3, degree or equivalent in a countryside management or related discipline is desirable.
  • A good working knowledge of conservation, habitat management and wildlife legislation
  • Experience of working with volunteers and local groups
  • A full manual driving license is essential
