Naturally Native Project Officer

Salary: Up to £25,000 per annum

Full Time

Fixed term contract, 1.5 Years

The Wildlife Trusts in the North East (Durham, Northumberland and Tees Valley) have brought together a wide range of organisations to restore water vole populations across the North East of England. The Naturally Native project is tackling the 2 major causes of water vole decline, predation by American mink, an introduced non-native species, and habitat fragmentation. Naturally Native is providing a model for reversing the harm done to our ecosystems by non-native species and will restore our natural heritage for future generations.

We are recruiting a Project Officer to deliver the key outputs of this project in the Tees Valley, working alongside Project Officers based at each of the North East Trusts.

The post holders is responsible for the practical delivery of the Naturally Native Project. They will be responsible for guiding volunteer habitat and species survey and the training of individuals in this area. The Officer will deliver and coordinate mink control to prescribed methodologies and deliver a suite of habitat restoration projects. They will ensure communications strategies and engagement activities, key to encouraging communities and landowners to actively participate in the project are delivered effectively.

They will work alongside a wide range of stakeholders, from public to private sectors, voluntary and community groups and local landowners to reverse the dramatic decline in water vole populations.
