Assistant Ranger - Ashtead Common
Salary in the range of £24,316 to £27,600 (inclusive of all allowances)

Location: Ashtead National Nature Reserve
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of managing one of the UK’s finest wood pasture landscapes and the ancient trees, woodland, scrub grassland and heritage features it contains. Ashtead Common is a 200-hectare National Nature Reserve managed by a small team of Rangers in partnership with the local community.
You will be a friendly and enthusiastic communicator who will engage with people, solve problems and support a wide range of habitat and estate management activities.
Your flexibility and adaptability mean that you are happy to take on a variety of responsibilities, which will include supervising volunteers and contractors, leading guided walks, maintaining countryside furniture, using tools and machinery and caring for livestock.
You must be conscientious and willing to work outside in all weathers and at times on difficult terrain, sometimes alone.
Working 37 hours a week and an average of one weekend in three the successful candidate will be based at the Ashtead Estate Office in Woodfield Lane, Ashtead, Surrey KT21 2DU.
The successful candidate will ideally have relevant experience in countryside management and working with volunteers and a qualification in countryside management or a related discipline. A full driving licence, good written and verbal communication skills, competency in a wide range of practical skills and a commitment to continuous professional development are also necessary. The starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
A DBS check is required.
