We are looking for a practically capable, enthusiastic, and motivated individual who has a passion for regenerating land for wildlife. Your role will focus on land-based management, including rewilding, traditional nature conservation, grazing livestock and some amenity land work where needed.

There will be a modest amount of administration work to enable the practical delivery such as risk assessments, emails to volunteers and team members, record keeping and submitting grant claim forms, so we also need someone with a basic level of computer literacy who is willing to engage in this type of admin in small, but regular, slots in their week.

You will also be involved in managing weekly volunteers, carrying out survey and monitoring and working on some of our rewilding courses and programmes so we are looking for someone who can relate to others, guide them, motivate people to try new skills, plan and prioritise tasks and adapt to weather and changing circumstances. We have an existing pool of people who are keen to help out, plus we want to reach out to new people in our community too.

Sometimes things come up that we had not expected. We are looking for someone who is willing to be part of a dedicated team at Embercombe who will help resolve and learn from such times.

Key Outcomes

1.     To deliver the Countryside Stewardship agreement in line with the provided specification, and within budget. This will include the practical work, supervising volunteers, overseeing contractors, livestock introduction and management, record keeping, submitting claims, and recording works. You will be supported in this work by our Rewilding Manager.

2.     To establish and maintain a regular volunteer work party on site.

3.     To support the biodiversity surveying/monitoring of the wildland.

4.     To support the Site Team with some land-based tasks such as mowing/hedge cutting where our programmes require. (This work will integrate and ensure that any land management is in alignment with our rewilding approach.)

5.     The implementation of high standards of health and safety practice and fire safety in meeting regulatory and operational requirements.

£23,000 per annum, plus basic accommodation provided on site.

Closing Date: 07/06/2024  Location: Higher Ashton, Exeter. EX6 7QQ
