I have a 2.5- 3 acre garden on the outskirts of
Watford and am looking for a full time horticulturalist to take responsibility
for all aspects of tending the garden. This includes:
- mowing
- weeding
- maintaining the borders
- planning for future seasons, purchasing plants and seeds etc
- pruning etc
It doesn’t include having to undertake tree surgery, for which i hire
specialists.
Currently the garden is being tended by a team who come once or twice a week.
They are efficient at mowing, weeding and maintaining borders but have no
vision for the garden. They have done nothing by way of planning and planting
for future seasons.
The garden is well known for its extraordinary trees, including 200 year old
Sequoias, 500 year old yew trees, Japanese cherry trees, many different
coloured Acers etc. Sadly the plant life lags behind. Having once been one of
the most acclaimed gardens in Hertfordshire, it needs an ambitious
horticulturalist to continue to maintain it but at the same time, plan for a
more vibrant and colourful future.
Capel Manor is well known and highly esteemed for your professionally qualified
alumni. Would you please be so kind as to consider this prospective appointment
which will be compensated competitively? The annual gross salary will be
between £30-35,000 p.a plus a reasonable transportation allowance. Obviously i
will also agree a budget for the execution of the horticulturalist’s plan.
The right candidate will probably be RHS Level 2 and have attained PA 1&6.
I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
With best regards,
Christopher Mackenzie
